Studying history in a college situated in a historical place like Plassey is a truly unique and enriching experience. The journey of the department of History dates back to the beginning of the college in 2010 as General Course. It is the college's largest department in terms of student enrolment and the number of faculty. The History Honours started in the year of 2014. The Department which started its academic career with a small number of students at the undergraduate level, in the very first year of its coming into existence in 2010, has now developed into a prestigious faculty with excellent achievements in the fields of teaching and research.

Currently, the department offers History Honours under the new CBCS curriculum of 2018. All courses taught in the department are being designed by the Undergraduate Council, University of Kalyani, and have been approved by the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal. The Department has a staff strength of six faculties. The department is regularly engaged in serious academic exercises like invited lectures, and seminars, showing documentaries and films, taking students to lectures by eminent historians, educational trips, etc. The Department organizes several cultural events like Agamoni Utsab, Basanta Utsab, Reunioun with alumni, etc. to promote cultural diversity, enhance creativity, build social skills, foster a sense of community, and enhance learning experiences for students. Among the six faculty members, two faculty members are pursuing their Doctoral Research. Faculty members regularly attend seminars, present research papers in national and international seminars, and publish their papers in peer-reviewed books and journals. Students of the department have won several prestigious awards in students seminar held in other colleges. Overall, a healthy academic environment and cordial teacher-student relations are maintained in the department. The department encourages students to take part in competitive examinations like the National Eligibility Test (NET) and State-Level Eligibility Test (SET), the Department is committed to encouraging students to choose a career in teaching. In addition to academics, students are encouraged to make a significant contribution to society by supporting alternative employment options including journalism, Archaeology, Museologist, Museum Curator, Archivist, and other govt. non-govt. service social activism, NGOs, etc.
